Billhop, a leading payment platform that unlocks card payments for B2B transactions, is excited to announce a significant leadership transition.
After more than a decade of dedicated leadership as CEO, Sebastian Andreescu will step aside to focus on his role on the Billhop Board of Directors, ensuring a seamless handover to the company’s new CEO, Niklas Bothén. This transition has been thoughtfully planned and aligns with the company’s long-term strategic vision.
"It has been an incredible journey leading Billhop over the past 12 years, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved as a team," said Sebastian Andreescu. "The decision to step aside comes with the utmost confidence in Niklas's ability to guide Billhop into its next chapter. He has been a key partner to me over the years, demonstrating exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the business."
Since joining Billhop in 2020 as Chief Operating Officer, Niklas has played a key role in shaping the company's strategic direction, with Billhop focusing on building robust partnerships with leading banks and card issuers across Europe. Over the past year alone, Billhop has grown its partnerships more than threefold, fuelling its expanding market presence. With over 14 years of experience in the payments industry and an intimate knowledge of Billhop's operations, Niklas is exceptionally well-equipped to lead the company into its next phase of growth and innovation.
"I am honoured to step into the role of CEO at Billhop and build on the incredible momentum we've achieved as a team," said Niklas. "Together, we've made great strides in expanding partnerships and aligning our strategic direction to focus on enterprise clients. I'm excited to prepare for further growth and lead Billhop into the next chapter."
This transition coincides with an exciting period of growth for Billhop as it continues to expand its presence across Europe. Recently, Billhop achieved a significant milestone by entering the UK market with approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The company remains focused on delivering exceptional value to clients and partners by streamlining B2B payments and enabling businesses to unlock working capital.
Per Otto Hyland, Chairman of the Billhop Board, added: "We are deeply grateful to Sebastian for his leadership over the past years. Under his guidance, Billhop has become a trusted name in the payments industry. We are equally excited to welcome Niklas as our new CEO. His expertise and commitment make him the ideal person to lead Billhop into the future."
